By DONNA HARRIS BAY ST. LOUIS -- This year’s BridgeFest will have an all-star lineup of jazz, funk, rhythm-and-blues and zydeco favorites from New Orleans and will stretch the entire weekend to fit it all in.

Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars, the finale act, will cap three nights of stellar performances, said Tish Williams of the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce.

“If you haven’t been here yet, this is the year to come,” she said.

The music begins May 20 at the Blue Jeans, BBQ & the Blues patron party at the Bay St. Louis Community Hall with The Relative Unknowns. Later that night, all are invited to the Juke Joint Jam, a music-filled pub crawl through the Depot District.

Nash Street, winner of the 2008 Colgate Country Music Countdown, headlines the jam. Also on tap will be Rochelle Harper, Suns of Eden, Sugar Lee featuring Johnny Hosey Jr. and Tommie T-Bone Pruitt. Tickets are $15; proceeds benefit Bay-Waveland Habitat for Humanity.

Entertainment committee chair Lee Seal said his goal was to bring the annual event to the next level. Luring some of New Orleans’ best musicians to Bay St. Louis was not difficult, he said. “They wanted to play here.”

Most of the acts are regulars at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the French Quarter Fest or both, he said.

Music will begin at Main and Second streets at 10 a.m. May 21, after the annual 5K and ArtWalk.

The U.S. Navy New Orleans Ceremonial Band & Full Steam Brass Band will start the show, which will also feature Lynn Drury, Mem Shannon and the Membership, Rosey Ledet and the Zydeco Playboys and Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe.

Organizers added a day to the popular free festival for the first time since it started five years ago. Appearing from noon to 7 p.m. May 22 will be the U.S. Navy Rock Band, Dread Clampett, John “Papa” Gros, Amanda Shaw, George Porter Jr. & the Runnin’ Pardners, John Mooney, Los Po Boy Citos and the Honey Island Swamp Band.

Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars will appear at 5:45 p.m. Grammy nominee Tab Benoit’s ensemble of fellow Louisiana musicians includes Cyril Neville, Anders Osborne, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, Johnny Vidacovich, Waylon Thibodeaux, Johnny Sansone and Corey Duplechin.

Vendor booths are still available. Call 467-9048 for information.
